JVP OPATIJA

JVP OPATIJA

In the beginning, the professional unit operated with seven employees, and was part of the People's Fire Militia. Gradually, according to the growing needs of fire protection, the fire service reached its current number of thirty-five employees. The public fire department of Opatija is located in Svetog Florijana Street No. 6, Opatija on two floors of the Fire Station, and partly in the extended garages next to the Fire Station. The fire station was built in 1910 for the volunteer fire department, which was spacious enough. The area of activity of JVP Opatija is the City of Opatija, and the area of the municipalities of Lovran, Matulja and Mošćenička Draga (area of Liburnija). It stretches from the northeastern slopes of Učka, from the top all the way to the sea. It borders the cities of Rijeka and Kastva and the municipality of Klana, the County of Istria and the Republic of Slovenia. The total area on which it operates is 310.96 km2, and with the permanent population it covers, that number grows many times during the summer months. JVP Opatija has 34 professional firefighters and employees for the implementation of preventive fire protection measures. The work takes place in four shifts with 8 employees each (in each shift there is 1 shift leader, his deputy, 3 drivers, 2 firefighters and 1 telephone operator). The unit is managed by the commander and his deputy, who work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and come after hours if necessary. In addition to extinguishing and rescue, JVP members also work in various other activities. Together with the Opatija Public Fire Brigade, the Opatija Volunteer Fire Brigade is located in the Fire House. It was founded in 1886, and has been in its current location since 1910.
