PGD LJUBLJANA BARJE

. Članovi prvog odbora vatrogasnog društva u Barju bili su: načelnik Ivan Vrbinc, donačelnik Jože Kadunc, tajnik Tit Grčar i blagajnik Franc Svetek.

The beginnings of the fire department in Barje date back to 1895, but no written documents have been preserved from this period. That is why we consider 1922 as the official start of firefighting in Barje. That year, landowners from Ilovice, Ivan Vrbinc and Jože Kadunc, began organizational preparations for the establishment of the Barje Fire Brigade. Tit Grčar, the manager of the elementary school in Barje at the time, also joined them. At the first meetings of men and boys from Barje, who were in school in Barje, they elected a preparatory committee. Ivan Vrbinc was elected as the chairman of this committee, and Tit Grčar as the secretary. Committee members were from Črna vas, Hauptmanc, Lip, Ižanska cesta and Ilovica. In the same year, the preparatory committee organized the founding general assembly of the association, which was attended by 25 men and boys, and this despite the flood that affected the Barje at that time, as many times before and many times later, until today. The members of the first board of the fire brigade in Barje were: chief Ivan Vrbinc, deputy chief Jože Kadunc, secretary Tit Grčar and treasurer Franc Svetek. Vlado Peruzzi, Ivan Modic and Jože Jarc were also elected to the committee. The founding general meeting was also attended by the head of the Volunteer Firefighters Association of Ljubljana, Mr. Hojan, who promised to help the newly founded association. Thus, the Barje Fire Brigade received its first manual sprinkler from PGD Ljubljana. At that time, the Barje firefighters kept their tools and accessories in auxiliary buildings in the yard of the Barje elementary school. Work in the association was very lively. Already in the following year (1923), the firefighters experienced a "baptism of fire". They were putting out a fire at a residential building on Ižanska cesta. By collecting funds, they bought a modern Rosenbauer motorized sprinkler in 1928, with which they made firefighting much easier and at the same time increased their efficiency. Our firefighters still keep this sprinkler in the fire station and it still works, something they are particularly proud of.
