PGD LJUTOMER

It was the distant year 1871, when the Austro-Hungarian Regional Viceroyalty approved the social rules of the VOLUNTEER FIRE DEFENSE in Ljutomer on July 26, stated in the application for the District Administration in Ljutomer on July 7, 1871. Johann Steyer, a resident of Ljutomer, was the main initiator of the establishment of the Fire Department. association in Ljutomer, later he was also considered the first known head of the association (1881). The association was called die Freiwillige Feuerwehr in Luttenberg. When the association was founded, it owned two small sprinklers, a wagon for transporting water, two barrels and a wooden warehouse for all equipment. In 1872, the society bought a Jauk'sche portable sprayer and the equipment for it. After the death of the first known head of the society, Johann Steyer, in 1889, the reins were taken over by the former deputy head Heinrich Sideritsch. Between 1881 and 1890, the association had 44 members, and in 1885, among other things, insignia were introduced in the association on members' uniforms and awards were given to members for five years of activity in the association. In 1892, the society bought a new fire sprinkler with a higher flow rate. Between 1882 and 1901, the association intervened in a total of 35 fires, as recorded in the chronicle. In 1901, there were only 34 members in the association. The dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the creation of the new state of the Kingdom of SHS, in 1918, brought changes. Thus, in 1920, according to the rules of the newly established Yugoslav Fire Association, the association was renamed the Ljutomer Volunteer Fire Association. The association was one of the first firefighting associations in Slovenian Styria, which started operating within the framework of the Yugoslav Firefighters Association. Alojz Rajh, a resident of Ljutomer, became the head of the association, but he resigned in 1923 and was succeeded by Martin Mihalič.
