Vatrogastvo u Grubišnom Polju vuče korijene iz 1887. godine kada je u našem gradu osnovano Dobrovoljno vatrogasno društvo. No, u samom početku nije imalo potporu građanstva, pa rad zamire. Dolaskom učitelja Vjekoslava Kelmena na čelo društva i uz podršku kotarske vlasti, društvo doživljava bolje dane, te se iste godine registrira i uvodi u evidenciju Hrvatske vatrogasne zajednice, te Državnoga arhiva u Zagrebu. Osim obranom od požara, vatrogasci su od samog osnutka nositelji razni manifestacija zabavnoga karaktera poput dočeka Nove godine, te drugih vjerskih i svjetovnih svečanosti, kazališnih predstava, koje su se u zimskom ljetnom razdoblju održavale u mjesnim gostionicama, a ljeti i u jesen u dvorištu tadašnjega vatrogasnog spremišta, dvorišta današnjega Vatrogasnoga doma u Grubišnom Polju. Uz pomoć općinske vlasti 1891. godine nabavljena je tada moderna vučna vatrogasna štrcaljka Walser F., po koju se konjskom zapregom išlo u Barcs, onamo željeznicom dopremljena iz Budimpešte. U statističkom godišnjaku Austro-ugarske monarhije za Kraljevinu Hrvatsku, Slavoniju i Dalmaciju 1906 – 1910. godine stoji da je u Kotaru Grubišno Polje organiziran jedan DVD, koji broji 30 članova, dok od vatrogasnih sprava i oruđa posjeduje vučnu u dobrom stanju, tri ručne štrcaljke, osam kanti i 56 ostalih sprava i oruđa, kao i tri munjovoda....više na stranici Vatrogastvo u Grubišnom Polju
